BRANTFORD, ONTARIO – The Brantford Titans concluded their 2 game home stand on Thursday as they welcomed the Fort Erie Meteors to the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre. This was the fourth and final game of the season series between the Meteors and Titans.
Fort Erie would have the first grade A scoring chance of the game less than a minute in, as they would beat Carter Vicente but not the post. About a minute later at 1:47, Tyler Crisostomo would open the scoring as the Titans take an early 1-0 lead on Fort Erie. This would be Crisostomo’s 27th goal of the season which sets a new single season franchise record for goals, previously held by Christian Polillo who scored 26 in 2017/18. Adam Stipan and Ethan Szabo would pick up the assists on the record breaking goal. The goal scoring would continue from the Titans as Crisostomo would pot his 2nd of the game at the 7:08 mark of the first period. Ethan Szabo would record the lone assist. Titans would then get a late power play opportunity and Jack Pancoe would take advantage scoring his second goal in as many games to give the Titans a 3-0 lead through the first 20 minutes. Carter Vicente had a strong start to this game as he would turn aside all 8 Fort Erie shots in the first.
Fort Erie would try to mount a comeback as they fired everything but the kitchen sink at Vicente but they were unable to beat him until the 11:07 mark of the 2nd when Kyle Adamo would score on the power play to cut the lead to 3-1. Fort Erie would then get even closer as Sam Tonelli would convert on another power play to make it 3-2. The Meteors would complete the comeback with 4:50 to play in the 2nd as Owen Cressman recorded his 3rd of the year and we would head to the 2nd intermission even at 3.
With 3 goals in the first, 3 goals in the second, we would see no scoring in the 3rd as this game would head to overtime. Each team would get a chance on the power play in the third frame but both Finn Moffat and Carter Vicente stood tall in their nets to get it to the extra frame.
At the 3:25 mark of overtime, Kaleb Frank would send it in front to Ethan Szabo who would bury it past Moffat to give the Titans the win. With their 14th win of the season, the Brantford Titans have set a new franchise record for wins in a single season. It would be Szabo’s 26th goal of the season, assisted by Frank and Babin.
The Titans return to action on February 13th as they make the trip to Ayr to face the Centennials.
